The disruption was detected at approximately 9:10 a.m., one of the busiest periods of the day when thousands of office workers and college students travel across the city. Railway authorities discovered an unidentified external wire hanging over the overhead electrical equipment on the up line, the track used by trains heading toward Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
Following the discovery, train operations on the affected section were immediately halted as a precautionary measure. The sudden suspension of services left passengers stranded, with many seen searching for alternative travel options amid growing confusion at stations. Considering the potential safety risk, railway officials acted swiftly and stopped a local train near the affected location to prevent any major incident.
Upon receiving information about the fault, the railway maintenance team was immediately deployed to the site. The team carefully removed the unidentified wire and carried out the necessary repairs to restore the electrical system.
As a result of the technical fault, local train services on the Harbour Line continued to operate with considerable delays, leading to heavy crowding at several stations. Large numbers of passengers were affected as trains ran behind schedule during the peak morning rush.
Railway authorities are currently working to gradually restore normal operations and regulate train movement across the corridor. The incident once again highlighted the vulnerability of Mumbai’s suburban railway network to technical disruptions, particularly during peak commuting hours when even a brief interruption can affect thousands of daily passengers.
